Additional Literature
In addition to the resources above, two publications may also prove
very helpful. They include:
"Guide to Concrete Overlays" (2nd Edition) - Published jointly
by the National Concrete Pavement
Technology Center and the American
Concrete Pavement Association, this 80-page second edition provides
the key elements of the six major types of concrete overlays along with
specifics on materials, typical sections, and important construction
elements. The expanded edition enhances the original material and adds
detailed guidelines for several new topics, including:
- Evaluating existing pavements to determine if they are good
candidates for concrete overlays.
- Selecting the appropriate overlay system for specific pavement
conditions.
- Managing concrete overlay construction work zones under traffic.
- Accelerating construction of concrete overlays when appropriate.
A commercially printed version of this publication is available
at a cost of $7.50 for ACPA members; $30.00 for nonmembers. To order
a copy, please contact ACPA/PCA Customer Service, 5420 Old Orchard
Road, Skokie, IL 60077-1059. Phone: 800-868-6733. Fax: 847-966-9666.
Guide to Concrete Overlays (2nd Edition) - A downloadable
version of the publication described above is available on the
website of the National
Concrete Pavement Technology Center.
A
Quick Check of Your Highway Network Health (Publication No.
FHWA-IF-07-006) - Published by the
Federal Highway Administration, this document describes how many
highway agency managers and administrators historically have viewed
their highway systems as simply a collection of projects. By using a
quick checkup tool, road agency managers and administrators can assess
the needs of their network and other highway assets and determine the
adequacy of their resource allocation effort.
